One model: the 2D plan and the 3D house

In many tools the 3D view is a picture made from the plan. In Geoniks the plan and the 3D house are the same model. Every wall has a length, a height, a thickness and a construction type (log, timber frame, post & beam, CLT), so the 3D floor plan is accurate enough to price and to turn into builder drawings.

What you can do

  • Exact walls — type 5.2, 520cm, an angle like 5<90 or a point like @3,0; arrow keys lock the direction.
  • Rooms and areas — closed rooms show their area; move a wall and the rooms follow.
  • Doors, windows, stairs — placed on walls with exact distances, visible in 2D and 3D.
  • Roof and floors — gable, shed and other roofs; several floors; decks and porches.
  • Walkthrough — walk through the 3D floor plan at eye height on a computer or phone.
  • Drawing set — PDF and DXF floor plans and elevations, materials list in Excel.

How to create a 3D floor plan in Geoniks

  1. Start a plan — blank, from a ready wooden house, or from a DXF file.
  2. Draw the outer walls — press R for a rectangle and type the size, e.g. 8,10 for 8 × 10 m.
  3. Add inner walls, doors and windows — rooms and their areas appear as walls close.
  4. Switch to 3D or split view — check heights, openings and the roof; walk through the rooms.
  5. Export the plan — a PDF and DXF drawing set, or ask manufacturers for a price.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a 3D floor plan for free?

Open Geoniks in your browser, start a plan and draw the walls in 2D — type exact lengths such as 5.2 or 520cm. The 3D view builds itself as you draw: walls, doors, windows, floors and the roof appear in 3D at the same time. It is free and nothing is installed.

What is the difference between a 2D and a 3D floor plan?

A 2D floor plan is the view from above with wall lengths, rooms and areas — what a builder reads. A 3D floor plan shows the same plan with real wall heights, openings and the roof, so you can judge the space, light and proportions. In Geoniks both are the same model: change one and the other follows.

Can I see the 2D plan and the 3D view side by side?

Yes. Switch between 2D, 3D and a split view where you draw in the plan and watch the 3D house update next to it. You can also walk through the rooms at eye height.

I have a floor plan drawing already. Can it become 3D?

Yes. AutoCAD DWG and DXF, SketchUp and IFC files open directly in the editor. For a photo of a sketch, an architect’s plan or a catalogue plan (JPG/PNG/PDF), the Geoniks team builds it as an editable 3D wooden house for you, free — see “2D floor plan to 3D”.

Can I export the floor plan?

Yes. One click creates a drawing set: dimensioned floor plans and elevations as a vector PDF and as DXF with CAD layers, plus a materials list in Excel.

Does it show room areas?

Yes. When walls close a room, the room and its area in m² appear in the plan; change a wall and the areas update.
